Summer Sugar
Detox Challenge
August 14 - September 3rd
Join me for the 21 day SUGAR DETOX challenge.
Did you know that seventy-four percent of the items in the grocery store contain added sugar? So, even if you never stop by the bakery or snack on chocolate bars, it’s likely you’re probably eating more sugar than you realize.
Natural sugar, found in things like fruit and dairy, is accompanied by fiber, which helps slow digestion and prevents blood sugar crashes. Fruit and dairy also offer other essential vitamins and minerals. On the other hand, added sugar provides zero nutritional value and can lead to blood sugar spikes. Moreover, added calories from added sugar can quickly lead to weight gain. The big sources of added sugar include cakes, cookies, candy, and breakfast cereal. But there’s also added sugar in yogurt, salad dressing, hamburger buns, hamburger meat, chicken — things you would never associate with sugar.”
Sugar’s effect on your body can be:
Joint pain
Upset GI
Fatigue
Weight gain
Headaches
Low mood
Skin issues
On average we consume 77 grams of added sugar daily, most of the time completely unaware. During this challenge, I recommend limiting added sugar intake to no more than 9 teaspoons (36 grams) of sugar for men and 6 teaspoons (25 grams) of added sugar for women. This would be a huge step in the right direction.
Summer has been good to us, and we have enjoyed our fair share of summer treats and sweats. Now it’s time to step back and reset. Over the next 21 days, I want to challenge you to slow down, be mindful of your choices and read the labels of the pre-packaged items you consume. Just by doing these simple things you can cut sugar drastically down with little effort.
